MARI TANIMOTO

The gallery is pleased to present Mari Tanimoto: Story Time. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in the United States. Born in Hyogo, Japan, in 1986, Tanimoto graduated from Kyoto City University of the Arts with a Master’s in Sculpture. Tanimoto uses ceramic as her canvas, painting dreamlike scenes directly on clay rather than adhering to traditional glazing techniques. Each ceramic can be read as its own story, featuring several different fairytale-esque scenes surrounding the vessel. The show also includes a selection of oil and oil pastel paintings. The dramatic works are full of symbolism as you experience each layer of color to reveal some of the artist’s favorite motifs.
