Hiroyuki Yamada has been actively exhibiting his works since the early 1990s, gaining significant attention both in Japan and abroad. His work ranges from traditonal Japanese craft to contemporary art - all while utilizing clay as his chosen medium.He adheres to ancient Japanese methods of ceramic production, while adding contemporary touches, including speaker components, modern shapes, and striking choices of glaze. It should be noted that the sound sculptures do not play continuously - they are only activated by iphone to emit music or other sounds when directed.

Yamada (b 1970, Hyogo Pref., Japan) studied at the National Okayama University (1992) and was Artist-in-Residence at The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Japan in 1994. He has held several international ceramic workshops including at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston USA (2005) and was a guest artist at the Uttarayan Art Foundation, India (2013) and at the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale, Korea (2017).

The aritst was included in the group ceramic show, The Congregation, at Peter Augustus in 2022.

His work is held in numerous public collections, including: The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park; MIHO MUSEUM, Shigaraki; Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston USA; World Ceramic Center, Yeoju Korea; Uttarayan Art Foundation Gujarat , India; Clayarch Gimhae Museum, Korea; EKWC, Holland.

Yamada has also been the recipient of several awards, including: Second Prize, Shigaraki Ceramics Competition, Japan (1999); Gold Prize, The 11th Shumei Award, Japan (2000); Special Judge’s Award, The 26th Asahi Craft Competition, Japan (2008); Second Prize, Itami International Craft Competition, Japan (2008); Shiga Prefecture Cultural Award, Japan (2017)
